Meet Óli – Your guide for the day
Óli is the owner, founder, driver and guide for Icelandic Taxi Tours. He has been driving a taxi in Reykjavík for the past 25 years but before that he travelled around the country for 20 years as a salesman for one of the oldest candy factories in Iceland. Óli got to know his country well during his travels and as his 3 daughters frequently put it: “he probably knows the name of ever damn stone on this island!” They may be exaggerating but he knows a lot none the less.
Óli, who’s real name is Ólafur, started working at the tender age of 12 making hot dogs with his grandmother at a local meat factory. He then practically ran a gas station at the age of 15 and finally travelled around the world as a crew member at a freight ship at 17. He has since been driving all sorts of vehicles for different companies and is a holder of every possible drivers license that is issued in Iceland.
Óli is a family man but he and his partner Sigrún have between them 6 children and stepchildren, some sons and daughters in law and quite a few grandchildren. When they are not working they enjoy the long summer days driving around the country in their camper van or welcoming guests and family into their home in Reykjavík.
Óli drives 2020 model of a black Mercedes-Benz- Sprinter. The car has 9 seats which means it can take up to 8 passengers. The car is spacious and comfortable with big windows so you won’t miss anything on the way. There’s heating and air conditioning in the back of the car so no matter what time of the year you are traveling, you will always enjoy the ride.
Our other drivers
Fortunately we’ve been very busy lately so occasionally we have to recruit other drivers to help us fulfill our customer’s wishes. We have a great network of drivers around us and usually don’t have to look further than the family to find suitable and licensed drivers. If we can’t take you there ourselves we make sure someone we trust does.
